Merlot Soaked Oak

The right side of my skull is clearly trying to kill me today. It's likely due from lack of sleep. Word of advice for anyone that enjoys the comforts of an uninterrupted slumber: don't have kids. On the plus side however, a shipment of Merlot soaked oak barrel wood came in today. It arrived just in time to make a batch of beef jerky on the smoker. For anyone curious how to make jerky from scratch, have a quick look at my recipe over here. As always, I'll be modifying the details as I gain practice and experience.

This stuff smells fantastic! Since I quit drinking a while back, the smell of wine on these really brings back nostalgic memories. Hopefully the smoke flavoring they add to beef will be worthwhile...
